Section 8 for Tenants

The Section 8 Voucher can help  a low-income family choose a rental unit that it could not otherwise afford.

When the family is issued a voucher, it has 60 days to find an eligible unit.  The Housing Authority will inspect the unit to ensure that it meets Housing and Urban Development standards for safety, size and accessibility.

Families must meet income guidelines to qualify for the Section 8 program.
The chart below shows the income limits for families of various sizes, based on 30%, 30-50% and 50-80% of the median income for the Hannibal area

Number in Family

  1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8
30% $13,550 15,500 17,400 19,350 20,900 22,450 24,000 25,500
30-50% $22,600 25,800 29,050 32,250 34,850 37,400 40,000 42,500
50-80% $36,100 41,300 46,450 51,750 55,250 59,850 64,000 68,100

The Section 8 waiting list moves extremely slow, so if you would like to apply for a Section 8 voucher, print the Public Housing / Section 8 Application, complete it in blue ink and return it to the Hannibal Housing Authority.
